Staying Healthy On Holiday

Work (Away) From Home: Staying in shape while on vacation

Holiday season has arrived, you've worked diligently to achieve your fitness goals, and you know that consistency is the key to success. But now, the annual vacation is approaching, and you're faced with a dilemma. How do you strike the right balance between relaxation and fitness while away from home?

You've just touched down in a brand new destination, and the excitement of a well deserved break is practically overflowing. However, in the back of your mind, there’s that little voice giving rise to your biggest concerns. You've invested months of hard work into your fitness journey, and the thought of undoing all your progress during this vacation is daunting.

Don’t worry though, we’ve got just the thing to help you safeguard the strides you've made towards your health and fitness goals. Here's how you can do it:

Take Walks to Keep Calories Burned High:

Taking a leisurely stroll has multiple benefits, the first is it gives you a chance to explore and unwind. Walking through the streets of a new city or a new country gives you time to slow down, take in the sights and enjoy some much needed rest. However, what this also does is keep your body working even if it doesn’t feel like it.

With each step, you're not only soaking in the beauty and culture of your destination but also burning calories. Whether it's wandering through a historic city, taking a walk on the beach, or hiking through lush landscapes, your body will respond by increasing your heart rate and burning calories. Aim to reach 10,000 steps a day, a perfect blend of fitness and exploration.

Quick and Short HIIT Workouts:

In between exploring and relaxing, why not carve out some time to incorporate a quick workout. While this might not sound ideal, work out and relaxation seldom appear together in a sentence, your hard work over the months or even years won’t be undone by a few days or weeks of rest. However this doesn’t mean you can’t maintain a healthy balance of fitness on your holiday.

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is your secret weapon. In this new setting, why not invest 20-30 minutes each day in a short HIIT session. You're doing burpees, jumping jacks, push-ups, and squats, using only your body weight. These quick, intense bursts of exercise not only keep your metabolism revved up but also leave you feeling energized and ready to embrace a new day of adventures.

Portion Control:

When in Rome, why not enjoy and savour the various restaurants, cafes and local cuisine on offer. Even if you’re not in Rome, taking a break from a strict diet and enjoying a taste of good food with good friends will always be a rewarding experience, and one that you can enjoy guilt free. Portion control can be a lifesaver in these situations, by keeping calories low you can still enjoy all the food on offer.

It's a delicate balance yes, but a rewarding one. The occasional indulgence is not off-limits, in fact we encourage it. After all, it's a vacation, a time for memories and experiences. Pair those delicious indulgent meals with healthier snack options and ample hydration to keep your body in top form.

As you enjoy your vacation, always remember that you can savour every moment without sacrificing your hard-earned gains. Your dedication to a healthy lifestyle doesn't mean you have to miss out on the joys of traveling.

Enjoy the vacation, relax and let the world pass you by for a while, but always remember to stay true to your goals and make small, but impactful, changes to maintain a healthy lifestyle even when on holiday.
